The academy is run by two energetic mothers who have been in the industry collectively for over 20 years. They have studied and performed a variety of dance styles ranging from classical to ballroom to disco freestyle and street, along with being vocally trained. Our new teacher is Emily MacDonald.
All our classes are run in an encouraging & fun way really trying to engage with our students to gain their full potential.
Sarah has always been in love with the performing world and has studied a variety of dance styles from the age of 6 including ballet, tap, jazz and disco. Sarah was also a very keen gymnast and trained in this field from the young age of 4 all the way to her late teens. Alongside the dancing and gymnastics, singing has always been a love of Sarah’s and she has sung many lead parts in the choirs she dedicated a lot of her time to.
Currently Sarah is working towards her Associates Freestyle Teachers Qualification.
Through Sarah’s early twenties she was in a dance crew within the bar she ran, the original ‘Jumpin Jaks’! Sarah could never shy away from one thing she will always love, dancing!
At the age of 24 Sarah married her perfect partner and had two beautiful baby boys, now ages 3 and 5 they are keen to follow in their parents’ steps with passion of dancing.
Sarah absolutely loves being a mother and thrives on helping her children and others to learn.
Sarah and her co-partner Lenise Adams have worked together in the past for over 5 years and make a fantastic team and are both really excited about working together again in this new venture.
A.I.S.T.D Disco Freestyle
Lenise started learning Tap dancing at a very young age and knew straight away that dancing would always be a huge part of her life. So at 5 years old she joined the ‘Betty Bouston School of Dance’ and started to train in Disco Freestyle, Rock & Roll, Ballroom & Latin. Lenise trained very hard and enjoyed every minute and in her 24 years there she completed her exams to an advanced level and then went on to teach for Betty.
During Lenise’s time being an amateur dancer trained professionally by former ISTD DFR Vice-chairman, the late ‘Miss Betty Bouston’, she took part in many productions and achieved a high standard in competitions. These times were some of her fondest memories and looks forward to seeing her students do the same.
At the age of 19 Lenise started working for the original ‘Jumpin’ Jaks’ as part of the Entertainment Team and was given the role of Dance Captain. Within this role Lenise choreographed routines, regularly put on shows and co-ran Entertainment Nights.
At college Lenise studied performing arts and over the years knew that she was the one who wanted to be the dance teacher!
So after many years of training and teaching and bringing a beautiful girl into the world Lenise has decided to move to Sunny Dorset and open Starlight Academy with her co-director Sarah Jadavji.
Having worked closely with Sarah for a few years Lenise believes they make the perfect team and she can’t wait to meet all her new students!
Our aim is to encourage children to go for their dreams in the dancing world by teaching them in an enthusiastic, fun and social way. We believe that interacting and engaging in others is a vital part of growing up and in what better way to do that is by making new friends doing
Starlight DA offer the option for our students to take exams, enter competitions, take part in Fetes and shows. Through these times the students will have the greatest of support from their coaches and the communications between teachers and parents will be readily available.
Starlight dance academy will hold progress records for each student which means specific support could be offered if needed, this also shows that each student is special to us and we aim to make the most of their talent.
